collision claims & deductibles

You have enough to deal with after an accident. We work directly with your insurance company, manage the paperwork, and keep your collision repair on track. Whether you are comparing auto body shops or auto repair shops, you have the right to shop directly and choose where your car and vehicle are repaired. Your collision coverage and policy benefits are there to cover the cost, not just send you through a direct repair program. We make sure OEM parts are used when typically required, and that fault, services, and money are handled the right way so you are not left paying for something your insurance should cover.

you pick the shop NOT the insurance company

After a collision, your insurance company may recommend certain repair shops or direct repair program locations, sometimes called DRP shops or network shops. These are part of your insurer’s repair program, but they are not required. You have the legal right to choose any auto body shop or auto repair shop you trust. Your collision coverage allows you to take your damaged vehicle to the shop you prefer, not just the ones in your insurer’s network.

Direct repair programs, often called DRPs, are partnerships between insurance companies and auto body shops inside their repair network. These DRP shops agree to follow insurer pricing, labor rates, and repair program guidelines in exchange for a steady volume of customers. While these network shops may offer convenience and faster approvals, they are not required. When you bring your car to Vision Collision, you are choosing quality repairs, OEM parts when required, and a warranty backed by a carefully vetted local shop that works for you.

how we help with insurance

Direct Communication

We speak directly with your insurance company adjuster so you do not have to. From State Farm to every major insurer, we handle the back-and-forth for you.

Detailed Estimates

We create detailed repair estimates that document all damage, labor, parts, and repair costs. If we find additional damage during disassembly, we submit supplements through the insurer’s repair program so nothing is missed.

paperwork management

Claims forms, photos, authorizations, and inspections are part of the process. We manage it all so the you stay informed and your claim moves smoothly through the network of services needed to complete your repairs.

rental car coordination

If your auto insurance includes rental coverage, we help arrange it so you still have access to a vehicle while repairs are completed.

Advocate for Proper Repairs

Some insurers push network shops to cut corners. We advocate for complete repairs using OEM or approved aftermarket parts, including making informed decisions about replacing versus repairing components based on safety and insurance guidelines, not shortcuts that put your  safety or the car’s value or performance at risk.

OEM vs Aftermarket Parts

Some insurance companies allow either OEM parts or aftermarket parts when repairing a vehicle. Generic aftermarket parts are often less expensive and may come from the same factory, but not every part fits every car the same way. If a part does not fit correctly, the insurer will usually pay to replace it. We make sure the right parts are used based on safety, performance, and what your coverage allows.

the claims process with vision

insurance companies we work with

We work with all major insurance companies including State Farm, GEICO, Progressive, Allstate, Farmers, USAA, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, American Family, and more. Whether your insurer prefers DRP shops or not, we can work with your collision insurance, coverage, and claim.

Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.

Do I have to use the shop my policy recommends?

No. Network shops, DRP shops, and some body shops are optional. You decide which repair shops and auto body facility gets your vehicle after an accident.

Yes. We handle all communication, including estimates, inspections, supplements, and payment so our customers do not have to manage the process.

We advocate for quality repairs, OEM parts when required, and work that aligns with your collision coverage so your vehicle’s value, safety, and benefits are protected. Our job is to make sure your car is fixed the right way, not the cheapest way, so you are not left paying out of pocket for something your coverage should fix.

Yes. The deductible is the portion you pay out of pocket. The remaining cost is covered based on your collision coverage. If that amount is difficult to afford, we can talk through responsible financing options or lenders that may be available to help.

Hidden damage can exist after accidents. We submit supplements so the network and provider cover all necessary quality repairs and keep the schedule on track.

If your car loses value after an accident, you may be eligible for a diminished value claim. This can help recover some of the money lost when a vehicle has a crash history.

Yes. It is a good idea to keep emergency savings that can cover your collision deductible. Having that money set aside helps avoid financial strain after an accident and lets repairs move forward without delay.

Your collision deductible is the amount you pay on each accident before coverage applies. If you choose a higher deductible, your premium is usually lower. If you choose a lower deductible, your premium is usually higher. Most deductibles range from $250 to $1,000. The right deductible depends on your driving history, risk level, and whether you have emergency savings to cover unexpected repair costs.

If your vehicle is totaled in a covered collision, your insurer pays the actual cash value of the car minus your deductible. This value reflects depreciation. If the car is financed or leased, your lender or leasing company may require collision coverage and a maximum deductible, often $500 or less. In fact, if you owe money on your car, or if you’re leasing it, collision coverage usually isn’t optional; most lenders and lease holders require it.

Many insurers promote DRP shops to their customers because those repair programs emphasize convenience and streamlined service. While these network shops can be helpful, you still have the right to choose any auto body shop you trust for quality repairs.
